Let me narrate you a \u2018once upon a time\u2019 story \u2013<\/p>\n
Once upon a time, there lived a very generous king. The only weakness of the king was \u2013 diamonds. He sent a message to the ruler of the neighboring country: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cSend a huge diamond as large as pigeon\u2019s egg or else\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n
The other king on receiving this message replied: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cWe\u00a0don’t\u00a0have such a diamond and if we had \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The first king got very disappointed and in anger he attacked the neighboring ruler. The war went for months till a third ruler intervened. The third king called a meeting with both the kings and asked the reason of the war. On hearing the messages, he asked the first king to complete his message.<\/p>\n
First king replied in his defense: \u201cIt was a simple message.\u201d He continued: – \u201cSend a huge diamond as large as pigeon\u2019s egg or else any other diamond. I love diamonds.<\/em><\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n Second king told that his message was easier to decipher: \u201cWe don\u2019t have such a diamond and if we had we would have gladly sent it to you.<\/em><\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n The third king cleared the communication gap and suggested both to have a better communication to avoid the huge massacre they would have created.<\/p>\n The widest gap in our lives \u2013 personally and professionally, is created by \u2013 the communication gap. Especially with professional environment being more multilingual, multicultural, gender variant, this communication gap is apparent. It is a challenge in today\u2019s environment to co-exist in such an environment.<\/p>\n Let\u2019s first understand what communication gap is?<\/p>\n –\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Incomplete message,<\/p>\n –\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Message not received by the receiver,<\/p>\n – \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Unable to communicate freely due to language difference or time shortage or location constraint.<\/p>\n Everything boils down to \u2013 lack of communication. The biggest problem of communication is the illusion that communication has taken place. This is where the gap starts building.<\/p>\n Question is what shall we do to bridge this gap?<\/p>\n Well, the solution is very simple:<\/p>\n –\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Partner within your team: <\/span><\/em>Junior or senior, treat your teammates as your partner in success and failure. \u00a0Share your goals and vision. Speak to them freely. Try to understand each other\u2019s attitude and style. Work together, party together. Start communicating.<\/p>\n –\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Simplify your message:<\/span><\/em> Complex and intricate problems can be broken down into smaller and simpler pieces. Presenting the problem in simplified way will help others to get a better understanding of the problem and will help all to reach to the solution collectively.<\/p>\n
