Recruitment or Retention

The most challenging task in today’s organizational life is to make a balance between – Recruitment and Retention. Both employees and employer have different aspects which they consider when it comes to recruitment or retention.

From an employee’s perspective:

  • Growth is given more weightage than stability.
  • Flashy designations, challenging roles and responsibility and lucrative perks attract them.
  • Travel is comfortable and they don’t have much of location-constraint.
  • Extensive networks and various referral programs.

From an employer’s perspective:

Recruitment
  • What means will you use to promote recruitment?
  • Will you need different recruitment strategies tailored for different levels?
  • Do you have detailed manpower planning?
  • Are your recruitments aligned with the organizational goals?
  • What tools will be used?
  • What will be the budget of the recruitment?
Retention
  • How will you retain employees?
  • How will you monitor the retention of the employees?

Like it is said, loss of one is gain for other, so challenge of retention is ease in recruitment while ease in retention is challenge in recruitment for the other. One of the biggest strategic recruiting challenges which organizations are going to face in this period is striking a balance between recruitment and retention or weighing one of the strategies more than the other.

What’s your take on this?
